Myrtle G. Burdick, 64 of Devils Lake, ND died on Saturday evening, February 12, 2005 at the SCCI Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral Services for Myrtle will be held on Friday, February 18, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake. Pastor Kevin Kaufmann will officiate and burial will be in the Minnewaukan Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, February 17, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Gene LaMotte, Paul Bjornson, Rob Dahl, Adam Dearinger, Kevin Birkeland, Allen Shorey, Craig Reierson and Don Taylor.
Myrtle Geneva Elgaen was born on August 22, 1940 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, the daughter of Carl and Hazel (Aamodt) Elgaen. She lived on a farm near Churchs Ferry until moving to Bartlett, ND in 1948. She attended school in Bartlett and Lakota, graduating as Valedictorian from Lakota High School. She then worked in cafes in Devils Lake for a number of years. Myrtle was united in marriage to Earl Burdick on August 26, 1962 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived through the years. When Myrtle’s children were born, she devoted her time to her family. Earl died on May 1, 2000.
Myrtle spent much of her time making quilts and other sewing projects which were gifts to her family, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. She was an avid reader and she also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends. Myrtle was the babysitter for many, many children in Devils Lake. She never said no to anyone needing a helping hand caring for their children.
Myrtle was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister and aunt who never forgot anyone’s birthday. We always had a card or phone call. She will be missed so very much.
