She was raised and educated in Lakota, graduating from Lakota High School with the class of 1971. After high school, Susan worked with her father in the carpentry business. Susan married Henry “Hank” Klindt in 1973. They made their home over the years in Grand Forks, Fargo, Crary and eventually moved to Devils Lake where they lived and worked through the years. In the mid 90’s, Susan moved to Cando where she met and married Jerry Putney on June 16, 2000. Susan was never afraid of hard-work or a challenge and always had more than one job. She worked as a cook and waitress in several area restaurants, worked at the Cenex Station, worked for a construction company in Devils Lake and now was employed with the Towner County Medical Center. She also was a Pampered Chef Consultant. Susan was even known to do maintenance and repair on her car. Jerry died on July 24, 2006. If Susan did take time to relax, she enjoyed working Suduko puzzles, watching wrestling on TV and fishing. She enjoyed crocheting and shared those creations with her family and friends.
