Vera Pauline Thorstad

Vera P. Thorstad, 80 of Devils Lake, ND, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Vera will be held on Friday, April 22, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Donald Reynolds, Chaplain at Heartland Care Center will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. . Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Serving as Pallbearers will be Steve Moser, Perry Peyerl, Troy Meier, and Jeff Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Staff at the Heartland Care Center. Music will be Congregational Hymns, Jim Vilandre, Vocalist and Brenda Swenseth, Organist Vera Pauline Olson was born on April 29, 1924 at Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of Iver and Velma (Wiggins) Olson. Vera grew up in Leeds, North Dakota and graduated from Leeds High School. Vera was united in marriage to Melvin Theodore Thorstad on October 20, 1942 at Starkweather, ND. The lived on the Thorstad family farm, rural Starkweather for a time then moved to Devils Lake. Vera worked as a salesclerk for Rand’s, Barker’s and Kelly’s Department Stores in Devils Lake. She also worked as a receptionist for Adeline’s Beauty Salon for a short time. Having get-togethers and spending time with her family, friends and neighbors and going dancing were a few of the pastimes that Vera and Mel enjoyed doing together. Mr. Thorstad died on February 2, 1988. Vera continued to make her home in Devils Lake. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Family brought Vera some of her most treasured moments. She loved to cook and care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought her such joy. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Vera is survived by her daughter: Pamela Moser and her husband, Dale of Devils Lake Grandchildren: Paula Peyerl, Phoenix, Arizona Perry Peyerl, Fargo, ND Steven (Melissa) Moser, Devils Lake Patti Jo (Troy Meier) Peyerl, also Devils Lake Stacie Moser, Lincoln, Nebraska Peggy Peyerl, San Antonio, Texas Great Grandchildren: Shelbie, Dylan and Alexis Moser, Devils Lake Jessica, Allen and Wesley Peyerl of Underwood, Minnesota Sister: Janice Anderson, Kirkland, Washington Sisters-In-Law: Alice Taylor, Walker, Minnesota Ione Thorstad, Omaha, Nebraska Many Nieces and Nephews Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; daughter, Paulette Peyerl; brothers, Leonard and Dale Olson and Iver Lee Olson in infancy; sister, Betty Moscrop.
