Adeline Kirkeide, 85 of Devils Lake formerly of the Baker/York, ND area died on Sunday morning at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Adeline will be held on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the St. Petri Cemetery, rural York, ND. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the Gilbertson Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Adeline will be her nephews. Music will be Congregational Hymns with Lynda Pearson as pianist. Adeline was born on December 9, 1922 at home, Broe Township, Benson County, rural Baker, ND, the daughter of John and Martha (Dokset) Kirkeide. She graduated from Baker High School and then attended Secretarial School. During World War II, Adeline worked in a secretarial pool in Washington DC. After the war ended, she worked for a time in Seattle, Washington and then in the early 1950’s returned to North Dakota. She lived and worked in Grand Forks for several years, then moved to Devils Lake where she was employed with the Federal Land Bank Office and also the Selective Service Office. In 1999, Adeline moved into the Odd Fellows Home where she lived at the time of her death. Adeline was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Adeline loved nature and the outdoors. She enjoyed walking whenever weather permitted. She was an avid reader and enjoyed being a part of the Odd Fellows community. Adeline is survived by her nephews, Tom (Kim) Kirkeide, York, ND; Paul (Delise) Kirkeide, Fessenden, ND; Jim Kirkeide also of Fessenden; John (Leslie) Kirkeide of Lake Forest, Illinois. Nieces: Catherine (Craig) Larson, Little Canada, Minnesota; Karen (Keith) Schindler, Bismarck, ND; Pam (Shawn) Gardner, Gilbert, Arizona; Debra Kirkeide also of Gilbert; Mavis (Larry) Maloney-Simonson of Esmond, ND. Sisters-In-Law: LaVon Kirkeide, Pat Kirkeide, Faye Kirkeide and Mildred Kirkeide. Several step nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews also survive. Adeline was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Einer, Melvin, Jay, Kenneth and LeVon Kirkeide and sister, Myrtle Maloney.
