Maria A. McCanna, 46 of Devils Lake died on Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the Towner County Medical Center, Cando, ND Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Joseph Christensen will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Maria Anne Solga was born on September 30, 1958 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Vincent and Mildred (Paulson) Solga. She attended school in Van Nuys, California and then in 1971 she moved with her family to Devils Lake. She graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1976. Maria was united in marriage to Micky McCanna on November 13, 1976 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family. Maria later attended Lake Region State College and graduated in 1988 with a background in Criminology. Maria worked at the Ranch Steakhouse and also at Del’s Drive-In for many years. Maria was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Maria was an avid bowler, enjoyed ice skating and listening to Country Music. When she was younger she volunteered as a Candy Striper at the hospital. Most of all, Maria could never resist taking in and befriending many lost and lonely animals. She loved her pets. Maria is survived by her husband, Micky of Devils Lake Daughter: Jasmine McCanna, also Devils Lake Son: Jay McCanna and special friend, Melissa Wilson of Badger, Minnesota Mother: Mildred Solga Brother: Greg Solga both of Devils Lake Nephew: Tony Solga Special Animal Friends: Biscuit, Lizzy B., Willow, Shelby, Porky and Nibs She was preceded in death by her father, Vincent Solga.
