Rodney B. Cavanaugh, “Waditaka Hoksina” (Brave Boy), 44 of St. Michael, ND died on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at his home in St. Michael. Mass of Christian Burial for Rodney will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Fr. Charles Leute, O.P. will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Cavanaugh Cemetery, rural St. Michael. The Prayer Services will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Friday, March 23, 2007 beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Rosary Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. led by Deacon Tony McDonald. The procession to St. Michael’s Catholic Church will leave from the Wal-Mart Parking lot at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Serving as Active Casket Bearers for Rodney will be Xavier Barragan, Gustavo Barragan, Francis Owlboy Jr., Jamie Burdick, Duey Blackbird, Herbert Cavanaugh, Jerry Jensen and Miles McAlester. Honorary Bearers will be All of Rodney’s nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Rodney Blaine Cavanaugh was born on January 20, 1963 to Benjamin and Stella (Sherman) Cavanaugh at Devils Lake, North Dakota. Rodney was a kind, generous and patient person who enjoyed life, and maintained a strong commitment to his spiritual beliefs and faith. He loved and grew up with horses, fishing and hunting, and repairing automobiles. His three nephews; Xavier, Ralph and Benjamin were the highlight of his life and he was very proud of them for their achievements. They will miss him dearly. His nieces were equally important in his life. Rodney’s loving family: Mother: Stella Sherman Cavanaugh, St. Michael Brothers: Justin Cavanaugh and Patrick Cavanaugh both of St. Michael Sisters: Wicahpi Tawacinhehomni, Anita Cavanaugh and Astel Cavanaugh all of Fort Totten. Nephews: Xavier Barragan, Ralph Barragan, Benjamin Barragan and Benjamin River Hunter Nieces: Taylor Von Cavanaugh and Anna Lisa Cavanaugh Uncles: Solomon Sherman, William Cavanaugh, Herman Cavanaugh and Timothy Prettybear Aunts: Frieda Prettybear, Ida Mae Cavanaugh, Edna McCaslin and Rosalie Baer Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Cavanaugh; grandmothers, Emma Prettybear Sherman, Louisa Green Sherman and Mabel DanceEagle Cavanaugh; grandfathers, John Sherman and Clarence Cavanaugh; brother, Joseph Cavanaugh; uncles, Michael DanceEagle, David Sherman, Joseph Sherman, Patrick Sherman, Robert Cavanaugh, Percy Cavanaugh, Benjamin Prettybear and Jonah Prettybear; aunts, Catherine Prettybear, Marie Cavanaugh Gaking, Amelia Cavanaugh Richotte, Evelyn Cavanaugh and Rosella Hooks.
