Donald “Donnie” Paul Hanson, 60 of Devils Lake formerly of Minnewaukan, ND died on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at his home in Devils Lake surrounded by his loving family and friends. Funeral Services for Donald will be held on Monday, January 31, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, ND. Rev. Betty Stedman will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Pallbearers will be Gilbert Smith, Tom Jones, Tim Regan, Bob Kueneman, Victor “Veto” Darilus and Ray Porter. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie’s Four Sons. Music will be cared for by Julie Nelson, Soloist, Fay Huffman, Accompanist with Congregational Hymns and Deanna Hanson, Pianist. Donnie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was born on December 14, 1944 at Minnewaukan, ND, to Oscar and Edith (Nelson) Hanson. He was raised and educated in Minnewaukan, graduating from Minnewaukan High School. After high school he attended the State School of Science at Wahpeton, ND. After college, he enlisted in the United States Army on September 20, 1965 and was stationed in Germany and served his country as a Paratrooper and Marksman. During his enlisted time he earned the Parachutist Badge National Defense Service Medal. On August 19, 1966 he was Honorably Discharged from the service and returned home to Devils Lake where he met his best friend Marlene Anderson and they were married on February 14, 1970. Together they made their home in Devils Lake. During their 35 years together, Donnie worked for a local trucking company. They also raised four wonderful boys, Donny, Wade, David and Ryan. Donnie was proud of each of his boys and their accomplishments. Donnie is survived by his wife, Marlene Sons: Donny (Cindy) Hanson, Bismarck, ND Wade Hanson, Devils Lake David (Tracy) Hanson also of Devils Lake Ryan (Abby) Hanson, Fargo, ND Granddaughters: Brenna, Jaida V. and Aniston Hanson Special Adopted Grandchildren: Haley and Cole Hillebrand Sisters: Dallas (Vernon) Sturlaugson, Larimore, ND Dorene (Dennis) Schwan, Devils Lake Brother: Dale (Delores) Hanson, Minneapolis, MN Sisters-In-Law: Deanna Hanson and Rosemary Hanson Special Sister-In-Law and Brother-In-Law: Vicki and Tom Jones Special Niece: Debbie Hanson He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oscar Hanson, Jr. and Glen Hanson; sister, Linda Gile. Donnie was a man who touched everyone he met. His heart and his sense of caring were bigger than anyone could possess. He lived his life for his family and cherished every moment he had with his beautiful granddaughters. We thank you for the memories you have placed in our hearts and also for all the love that you have shared with us. We will miss you-My Husband, Our Father, Our Grandfather, Our Brother, Our Uncle, but above all, Our Friend.
