Earl E. Howes, 94 of Devils Lake, ND died on Monday, April 2, 2007 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake
Funeral Services for Earl will be held on Friday, April 6, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Earl will be Lonnie Stein, Steve Knutson, Luke Beasley, Andrew Stein, Kellen Stein and Christopher Stein.
Music will be provided by Tom Wade, soloist and Lynda Pearson, organist
Earl Edward was born in Gladstone, Montana on March 28, 1913, the son of Harry and Ella (Johnson) Howes who had homesteaded in the Rudyard, Montana area. At a very young age, Earl and his parents moved to the Hampden/Starkweather area of North Dakota and this is where Earl was reared and educated. Earl was united in marriage to Ruby Holm on October 26, 1938 at Edmore, ND. They established their home on the farm at rural Edmore where they farmed and Earl worked for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. In 1950, the family moved to Devils Lake where they made their home through the years. Earl worked for a time at Powell Motor Company and the North Dakota School for the Deaf. He then began employment with Otter Tail Power Company, retiring in 1976 after over 20 years of service. Ruby died on March 16, 2004. For the past 3 years, Earl has been a resident of the Heartland Care Center.
He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). Earl was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. Earl touched the lives of many in such a special way and shall be greatly missed and forever loved.
He is survived by his children, Yvonne Knutson and her husband, Roger of Devils Lake
Karen Dolan and her husband, Darryl of Bismarck, ND
Dean Howes and his wife, Dona of Grand Forks, ND
Grandchildren: Lonnie (Bonnie) Stein, Stacie (Tom) Wade, Steven (Tonya) Knutson, Jennifer (Russ) Horning, Ashlee (Lucas) Beasley and Amy Wade.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; sons, Dale Allen and Wayne Ellis; grandson, Pat Stein and brothers, Kenneth, Russell and Harry Howes Jr.
