Michael B. Hiltner, 88 of Devils Lake formerly of Dresden, North Dakota died on Wednesday morning, March 2, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C. F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, rural Langdon, ND in the spring. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Pallbearers will be: Tim, Todd and Kyle Gratton, Jared, Tyler, Kelsi, Libby and Quinn Hiltner, Chance Gratton and Leon Hiltner. Reading the Scriptures will be Michael J. Hiltner Michael Boniface Hiltner was born on November 16, 1916 at Wales, ND the son of John A. and Margaret (Schafer) Hiltner. He was reared and educated in country schools in the Dresden/ Wales area and also attended St. Alphonsus Catholic School in Langdon. Michael was united in marriage to Dorothy I. Koch on August 13, 1947 at Langdon. They established their home on a farm at rural Dresden where they lived, worked and raised their family. Michael farmed his entire life and also had pigs, cows and chickens. He also enjoyed working at other jobs including the local implement deales in Langdon and Devils Lake and he also worked construction with his friend from Langdon and his son-in-law. In July of 1999, they moved to Devils Lake where they have since made their home. Michael was a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dresden, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Langdon, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Wales and at the present time was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Michael enjoyed fishing and made several trips to Canada to enjoy this sport. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandsons and always treasured time he was able to spend with all of his grandchildren. Michael is survived by his Wife of 57 years, Dorothy Daughter: Margaret A. Gratton and her husband, Kenneth, Devils Lake Son: Michael J. Hiltner and his wife, Laurie, Kiowa, Kansas Grandchildren: Jared Hiltner, Tyler Hiltner, Kelsie Hiltner, Libby Hiltner and Quinn Hiltner and Todd Gratton, Tim Gratton and Kyle Gratton. Great Grandchildren: Chance Gratton, Hadley Hiltner and Kerstyn Hiltner Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Alphonse Hiltner, Langdon Billy and Dolly Hiltner, Minneapolis, MN John and Evangeline Hiltner, Yankton, South Dakota Sisters and Brothers-In-Law: Sr. Ann Anselm Hil, St. Cloud, MN Tillie Koehmstedt, Strathcona, Minnesota Rose and Jerome Imholt, Watkins, Minnesota Theresa Stangler, Albany, Minnesota Rita and Gibson Uhrich, Wales, ND Many nieces and nephews also survive. Michael was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Troy Gratton, sisters, Sr. Leodette Hiltner and Clara Druar; brothers, Aloysius, Andrew and Anthony Hiltner.
