Ralph A. Miller, 96 of Devils Lake died peacefully February 17, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Home in Devils Lake surrounded by his loving wife and family. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on February 20th from 3-7 pm with a Rosary and Prayer service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake on February 21st at 10:00 am with Rev. Robert Pecotte celebrating the Mass. Interment will be at a later date in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, rural Webster, ND. Casket bearers are grandchildren: Nathan Loehr, Eric Loehr, Travis Anderson, and Philip Kusler and nephews: Ed Miller, Greg Miller, Gary Retterath, and Dennis Miller. Music will be provided by Kevin Regan, soloist and JoDee Lagein, organist Reading the Scriptures will be Susan Hoffert Gift Bearers will be Megan Loehr, Samantha Griffin and Andrea Griffin Eucharistic Minister will be Rose Windjue Ralph Aaron Miller was born December 15, 1911 in Cato Township, Lawton, ND to Arthur Jay Miller and Eva Marie (Zettler) Miller, oldest of six children. He received his education in the Township’s rural school, then farmed with his Dad until he was drafted into the Army where he served in World Ward II from October 20, 1942 when he entered at Fort Snelling, St. Paul, MN until February 14, 1946 when he received his honorable discharge at Camp McCoy, WI. After his discharge he continued to farm. On June 4, 1949 Ralph was united in marriage to Rosemary Simbeck of Loretto, TN at Sts Peter and Paul Church of rural Webster, ND. After a few years on the home farm they moved to Webster, ND in March 1954 where he was employed many years at the Grain Elevator. They moved to Devils Lake, October 2, 1997 and he entered the Good Samaritan Home there on May 25, 2001. Ralph enjoyed working, gardening, mowing yards, spending time with his family. After retirement, he spent many hours walking the ditches picking up aluminum cans for recycling. He is survived by Rosemary, wife of 58 years, 6 daughters: Ruth (Don) Quittschreiber, West Fargo, ND; Rosella Miller, Fargo, ND; Roberta (John) Anderson, Plymouth, MN; Renee Loehr, Moorhead, MN; Becky (Rick) Olstad, Fargo, ND; Rachel (Neil) Kusler, Breckenridge, MN; daughter-in-law, Patti Miller, Lakewood, CO; 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; several step grand children and step great-grand children; brothers: Clarence (Mabel) Miller and Cecil (Marge) Miller of Devils Lake, ND and sister: Florence Retterath, Valley City, ND. He was preceded in death by five children: Bernard, Rita, Ramona, Robert, and Regina Miller; two brothers: Walter and Vernon Miller; son-in-law, Craig Loehr; granddaughter, Heather Swain & a step-grandson.
