T. James "Jim" Edkins

Thomas James “Jim” Edkins, 90, formerly of Sarles, ND and Devils Lake, ND, died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the Kenmare Community Hospital. Funeral services for Jim will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Pastor Kevin Kaufmann will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at the Sarles Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00a.m. until time of service. Serving as Pallbearers will be: Dave Nickerson, Harold Estenson, Jerry Estenson, Lionel McDonald, Allen Kingzett and Roger Amble. Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein. Thomas James Edkins was born in Clearwater, Manitoba, Canada on March 16, 1914 to George and Katherine (Sawyer) Edkins At the age of 6 years old, he moved with his family to Sarles, ND. He attended Sarles school and Dash school. Jim married Ruth Evelyn Sanders in Langdon, ND in 1941. He farmed in the Sarles area until 1981 at which time he moved to the Lakewood area of Devils Lake. In 2003, Jim and his wife Ruth moved to Kenmare. Jim raised purebred hereford cattle, sheep, and grain. He also loved to raise gardens. He served on the elevator board, the Presbyterian Church board, Sarles school board, and helped with the 4-H program. He was member of the Masons Eureka No. 87 of Sarles. He loved all sports, especially baseball and played on the local teams until he was 68 years old. He had a bowling team. He loved to fish and hunt but his greatest pride and love was for his family. Survivors include: Wife: Ruth of Kenmare, ND Son: Robert (Earleen) Edkins of Donnybrook, ND Daughter: Jane (Dan) Fugere of Scobey, MT Grandchildren: Fayaleen (Terry) Froseth of Kenmare, Bobbie Jo (Teague) Nelson of Minot, Anjanette Gorman Doyle Tande, Lane (Krista) Tande, Lucas Tande, all of Colorado Springs, CO Great Grandchildren: Brett, Clay, and Reeve Froseth of Kenmare, Taylor Hauf of Max, ND, Breein Nelson of Minot, ND, Alexis Gorman Morgan Sanderson Elise Tande Kora Tande, all of Colorado Springs Sisters-In-Law: Shirley Sanders of Urbandale, Iowa Doris Sanders of Fargo Nieces and Nephews: Becky (Burnette) Kobernick, Kate and Jack Early, Michel and Susey Sanders, Steve and Karen Sanders, John and Mary Sanders and Carol Steel Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eileen Perigue; and nephew, Jerry Converse.
