Julie Lynn Nordquist was born on December 10, 1959 at Milbank, South Dakota, the daughter of Arnold and Dolores (Toutges) Nordquist. She was raised and educated in Milbank attending St. Lawrence Parochial School and graduating from Milbank High School in 1978. She attended North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Julie was united in marriage to Christopher P. Van de Voort on August 4, 1984 at Milbank. They lived in various places in the tri state from June of 1985 including Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Oakes, North Dakota, Morris, Minnesota and back to Fergus Falls. In June of 1996 they moved to Devils Lake where they have lived, worked and raised their two sons. Julie worked for Century 21, Real Estate Office in Fergus Falls and Willy’s Friendly Super Valu in Morris. While living in Devils Lake, Julie worked at the Town and Country Club and most recently at Heartland Care Center.
Julie had many hobbies and pastimes and spent her spare time as a volunteer for many different activities. While living in Fergus Falls, she and Chris were in charge of the Friday Night Fish Fries for their church. She enjoyed other fund-raising activities and works of charity. At Halloween she would paint hundreds of pumpkins to give away to family and friends. The artistic side of Julie was a special gift and she also put that talent to use by volunteering to paint scenery and sets for the Lake Region Arts Council of which she was a member. But the brightest stars in Julie’s life were her sons and she was their strongest supporter at all of their activities.
