Helena R. Webster, 96 a life long resident of the Devils Lake area died on Sunday morning, January 16, 2005 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, ND. Fr. C. F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary led by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Tony Heidrich, Ron Nelson, Jim Mikkelsen, Dan Weed, Dennis Weed, Mike Weed, Jeffrey Bryngelson and David Bryngelson.
Gift Bearers will be: Brandi Weed and Amy Weed
Reading the Scriptures will be Melissa Pawlowski
Altar Servers will Andy, Alex and Cam Heidrich.
Helena R. Rutten was born on May 19, 1908 at Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of John Herman and Sophia (Hilgers) Rutten. She was reared and educated in Devils Lake graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in the class of 1926. After graduation, Helena studied hairdressing, cosmetology and permanent waving at the School of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists in Minneapolis. Helena took the first State Board Exams ever held in North Dakota at Bismarck in about 1927. She worked in several beauty shops in Devils Lake including “The Peggy Shop”, “The Robinson Shop” and “Claire’s Beauty Shop”. Helena was united in marriage to Russell William Webster on October 14, 1929 in Devils Lake. After their marriage, they lived and farmed on the home farm in Freshwater Township, Ramsey County for 39 years. They retired in 1967 and made their home in Devils Lake. Mr. Webster died on March 7, 1976. Helena continued to make her home in Devils Lake. Helena was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America and Pioneer Daughters all of Devils Lake.
