Isabel Carmen Voiles was born September 20, 1922 to George and Jane (Crummy) Voiles in Calvin, ND. She grew up there as the eldest of eight children, graduating from Calvin High School in 1941. Isabel married John Logan on June 4, 1942 in Langdon. ND. She always told her children that she knew John would be the one she would marry from the first time she laid eyes on him when his family moved to the Calvin area in 1934. She accompanied John during his service in the U.S. Army during World War II; living in California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Alabama and Kansas before coming back home at the end of the war.
John’s first job as Assistant County Agent in Bottineau County had them living in Bottineau for 8 months until he was appointed by the North Dakota Extension Service to Towner County. They lived in Cando for nearly 20 years. They moved to Devils Lake in 1966 and have lived there continuously since then. John and Isabel moved to Heartland Court in April 2006 and Isabel moved to Heartland Care Center in May 2006. John and Isabel raised five children, Jane (Abdul) Kamara of Fargo, ND; Barbara (Bruce) Roseland of Seneca, South Dakota; Jack (JeriAnn) Logan of Canyon Creek, Montana; Carmen (AG) Votaw of Austin, Texas and Joy (Joe) Hawk of Columbia, South Carolina.
Isabel was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and also was the leader of the children’s choir. She was a member of the American Federated Music Club and Sweet Adelines. She was a 50 year plus member of the Eastern Star and served as a 4-H leader for many years.
All who knew Isabel know that she was blessed with a particular gift of song. With her remarkably warm, vibrant contralto voice, she always sang to the glory of God and to cheer and uplift everyone who ever heard her sing. Isabel devoted her entire life to loving and serving her family and her many friends and provided them all with a Christ-like model of how to love constantly and unconditionally. Her shining blue eyes and bright smile will be missed by all who knew her.
Isabel is survived by her loving family; her husband of 65 years, John; children, Jane, Barbara, Jack, Carmen and Joy; grandchildren, Abdul (Bethany) Kamara, Princess Isabella Kamara, Aziz Kamara, Latif Kamara, Aaron Roseland, Adam Roseland, Teagan Votaw, Basil Hawk and Blair Hawk and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Howard Voiles of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ted, Dellas, Delwyn and Jack and two sisters, Pearl Anderson and Shirley who died in infancy.
We rejoice that Isabel is in heaven, united with her Lord Jesus.
