Roger C. Vollmers, 65 of Devils Lake, ND died on Wednesday evening, August 27, 2008 at his home in the loving care of his family and Mercy Hospice after a long battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Roger will be Orville Vollmers, Ken Olson, Clint DeVier, Lyle Hoff, Don Jackson, Dan Gowan and Randy Myers Reading the Scriptures will be John French Gift Bearers will be John and Bernice Eberle and Ron and Maxine Heisler Roger was born July 11, 1943 in Graceville, MN to Clarence and Florence (Lohndorf) Vollmers. Roger started school in Dumont, MN and graduated from Graceville High School in 1961. He then attended the North Dakota School of Science in Wahpeton, ND and worked for many small electrical contractors from 1962 to 1966. He was employed at Minnkota Electric Power in Grand Forks, ND from 1966 to 1974 when he started Roger’s Electric in Oslo, MN. Later he expanded to the Stephen, MN area. Roger married Rita (Gowan) Bentley March 31, 1984 in Manvel, ND. They made their home at Oslo, MN and in 2006 moved to Devils Lake. Hunting, fishing, trap and sporting clays were some activities he very much enjoyed and excelled in. He will be greatly missed for his passion for work, sense of humor, ability to get things done and his willingness to help those in need. “Life is Good” became his motto. He is survived by his wife, Rita; son, Michael (Dedra) Bentley, Devils Lake; two grandchildren, Dustin William and Madison Rose. Preceded in death by grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
