Virginia C. Tobin, 79, a long time Devils Lake school teacher died on Saturday evening, July 30, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Joseph Christensen will celebrate the Mass. Interment will be at the St. Vincent DePaul Church Cemetery, Leeds, ND on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m.. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Music will be cared for by Virginia’s Niece and Great Nieces, Angie and Kari and Karla Deplazes. Reading the Scriptures will be Virginia’s nephew, George Youngerman and niece, Candace Benz Serving as Casket Bearers will be Virginia’s Nephews: Rick Schwab, Leonard Deplazes, Jr., Anthony Deplazes and great nephews, Benjamin Kjelland, LC Kjelland and Chad Deplazes. Virginia Corinne Tobin was born April 25, 1926 at Leeds, ND the daughter of Joseph and Verna Mae (Winstead) Tobin. Virginia grew up on the farm in Irvine Township, Benson County. She attended grade school at the Irvine Consolidated School, and upon it’s closing, graduated from Leeds High School. She attended Minot State Teacher’s College and in 1946 began her career teaching first and second grades at Langdon, 1946-1948. She taught sixth grade and music in Rolla, ND from 1948-1950. Virginia moved to Devils Lake in 1950, where she taught first and second grades at Washington School. She taught first grade at Prairie View Elementary School in Devils Lake from 1957 until her retirement in 1983. Virginia enjoyed traveling, the highlight being a tour of the Holy Lands in 1970. In Rome, she attended a general audience with Pope Paul VI. Virginia loved music and sang tenor with the Sweet Adelines for many years. She took great pleasure in a yard full of beautiful flowers and spent much time tending them. Virginia enjoyed the company of her many godchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Jude’s Circle and an active member of Catholic Daughters, having recently been awarded her 50 year pin. Virginia is survived by her Sisters: Dorothy (Leonard) Deplazes, Cando, ND Rosemary (Leonard) Schwab, Devils Lake Sister-In-Law: Dovie Tobin Burton, Roanoke, Alabama Godchildren: Joan Youngerman, Cando Rick Schwab, Devils Lake Katelyn Kjelland, Valley City, ND Ann Mueller, Minot And 43 other nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Marjorie; twin brothers, Milton and Martin Tobin and brother, Vernon Tobin.
