Helen L. Blazer, 72 a life long resident of the Devils Lake area died Friday evening, July 22, 2005 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake Funeral Services for Helen will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Marvin Winstryg will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Serving as Honorary Casket Bearers will be Helen’s Granddaughters and Great Granddaughters: Jennifer Carlson, Theresa Blazer, Kayla Blazer, Kelsey Blazer, Caitlyn Blazer, Elle Carlson and Luz Marie Camacho. Active Casket Bearers will be Chris Carlson, Jared Carlson, Wade Carlson, Jacob Carlson, Shane Blazer, Brady Blazer, Austin Blazer or Marcus Carlson. Music will be cared for by Mary Oehlke, Soloist and Naomi Modrow, Organist Helen L. Burdick was born on June 26, 1933 at Grahams Island, ND the daughter of Ralph and Lucy E. (Howard) Burdick. She was reared and educated in the Grahams Island and Minnewaukan areas. On May 30, 1954 Helen was united in marriage to Marvin J. Blazer at Minnewaukan, ND. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family. Helen worked as a nurses’ assistant at Mercy Hospital for many years. They moved to Cando for 9 years and then returned to Devils Lake where Helen worked as a Department Manager at K-Mart for 10 years, retiring in 1999. Above all, Helen devoted her life to caring for her family. Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elkettes, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Mrs. Jaycees, served as President and was also named Outstanding Mrs. Jaycee for North Dakota. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Marvin Children: Candy L. Carlson and her husband, Russ of Lankin, ND Randy J. Blazer and his wife, Betty of Burnsville, Minnesota Terri J. Blazer also of Burnsville Jeff D. Blazer and his wife, Heidi of Devils Lake Twelve Grandchildren: Chris (Connie) Carlson, Jared (Carissa) Carlson, Jennifer, Wade and Jacob Carlson Shane and Theresa Blazer Kayla and Kelsey Blazer Brady, Austin and Caitlyn Blazer Three Great Grandchildren: Marcus and Elle Carlson Luz Marie Camacho Brother: Gordon Burdick, Devils Lake Sister: Margaret Brown, Maddock, ND Brothers-In-Law: Lloyd O. Blazer, Townsend, Montana Kenneth (Ginny) Blazer, Mandan, ND Sisters-In-Law: JoAnn F. Harveland, Devils Lake Mavis (Glenn) Overby, Bisbee, ND Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her parents; infant son; brothers, Leslie, Darrel and Wayne Burdick; brothers-in-law, Wilford Brown, Gary Harveland and Loren Blazer and sisters-in-law, Jeannette Burdick, Lois Blazer, Marilyn Blazer and Jan Blazer.
