Muriel M. Wessels

Muriel M. Wessels, 82, of Tolna, ND formerly of the Warwick area, died on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Muriel will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Warwick Lutheran Church, Warwick, ND. Rev. David Nichols will officiate and burial will be in the Warwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and time of remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Curt Herman, David Morken, Greg Schwab, Mark Johnson, Kevin Flaagan and Michael Luehring. Music will be provided by Kelly and Stacy Lund as vocalists and Roger Forde, organist. Muriel Marie was born on July 27, 1925 in Eddy County, rural Warwick, ND the daughter of Even and Karen (Christianson) Peterson. She was raised by her grandparents, Martin and Marie Christianson. She grew up in the Warwick area and attended country school. She worked for a time as a waitress in Devils Lake and New Rockford. In April of 1955, Muriel was united in marriage to Alton Stubson at Crookston, Minnesota. They established their home in the Warwick area where they farmed, ranched and began their family life together. Alton became ill late in 1965 and died in April of 1966. On September 8, 1967 in New Rockford, ND Muriel was blessed with a marriage to Don Wessels. They farmed and raised the children together in the Warwick area until Don's death on May 23, 1983. Muriel continued to live in Warwick until the fall of 1997 when she moved to Tolna. Muriel was a baptized and confirmed member of the Warwick Lutheran Church. Muriel enjoyed quilting and spent many hours sewing and stitching quilts with friends and neighbors. Other favorite pastimes included watching sports and playing Bingo. She survived cancer and the deaths of her two husbands and the many struggles that life always brings. Muriel loved spending time with family and friends and was especially proud of her grandchildren and their achievements. Muriel is survived by her children: Wayne (Martha) Stubson of Crary, ND; Wade (Eileen) Stubson of Fargo; Wendy (Ray) Gourneau of Tolna Grandchildren: Randi (Cole) Lamb, Jennifer Stubson, Adam (Amanda) Stubson, Drew Stubson, Braydon Gourneau Sisters: Thelma Eggleston and Ihlys Peterson both of Devils Lake Brother: Dennis Peterson and his wife, Carole of San Bernardino, California Special Family: Jane and Don Tennancour and family. Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; husbands, Alton Stubson and Don Wessels; daughter, Becky Stubson; brother, Leonard Peterson; sisters, Donna Schue and Norma Sherve.
