Edward was stationed in North Africa and Italy. After his discharge, he returned home to raise small grain and beef cattle with his brother, Clem.
On January 3, 1953, Edward married his wife of 45 years, Dorothy Mertens at Van Nuys, CA. He continued farming and also operated a custom combining crew, working from Kansas to Canada. Clem died in 1960, and Edward sold the cows and grew small grains until retiring in 1976. They moved to Devils Lake in 1992, and Dorothy died on August 21, 1998. Edward moved to Sunshine Court in Fertile, to be near his family, in 2002; and in April of this year entered the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile.
