Joyce M. Agnes, 75 of Bottineau formerly of Rolette, ND died on Monday, May 25, 2009 at St. Andrew’s Health Center, Bottineau. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rolette, ND. Fr. Philip Chacko, Fr. Tom Graner and Fr. Paul Schuster will concelebrate the Mass and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, rural Rolette. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by Sr. Mary Jane. Serving as Casket Bearers for Joyce will be Daniel Agnes, Rodney Agnes, Harold Blessum, James Hanson, Dennis Horpestad and Tom Weber. Honorary Bearers will be Joyce’s dear friends and family. Reading the Sacred Scriptures will be Tim Shirk. Gift Bearers will be Karen Weber and Violet Kuntz. Music will be provided by Jeff Agnes, Cathy Andre, Cole Andre and Leonard Keplin, vocalists and Gail Tastad, pianist. Joyce Marcelene Horswill, daughter of Phillip and Lucille (Barron) Horswill, was born on October 24, 1933 at Waubay, South Dakota. She attended grade school at Shell Valley Country School and graduated from Wolford High School in 1952. She received her teaching certificate from Minot State Teacher’s College and taught school at Maryville and South Valley. Joyce was united in marriage to Fillmore P. Agnes on September 1, 1955 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, Minnesota. They established their home in Virginia, MN until 1959 when they moved to the Rolette area. Joyce received her nursing degree in 1974 and worked in various hospitals and clinics until retirement. From 1996 to 1998, Joyce and Fillmore were in Uganda, Africa doing missionary work. When they returned home, Joyce worked at the Belcourt Kidney Dialysis Unit and later St. Andrew’s Hospital in Bottineau in the dietary department. Joyce was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary of Rolette. She was an Associate of Sisters of the Presentation of Mary and after moving to Bottineau was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Befrienders Club, and also did volunteer work at the Good Samaritan Center and in the Bottineau area. Joyce is survived by her loving family. Her children, Steven Agnes of Fargo, ND; David Agnes and his wife, Janel of Bottineau; Jeffrey Agnes and his wife, Stephanie of Brooklyn Park, MN; Catherine Andre and her husband, Kent of Vermillion, South Dakota; Carolanne Dvorak and her husband, Allan of Bismarck, ND; Eleven Grandchildren: Bocephus Agnes; McKinley and Madison Agnes; Niko Agnes; Cole, Carter and Victoria Andre; Alexa, Grant, Tonya and Landen Dvorak; Brother: Galen Horswill and his wife, Betty of Red Lake Falls, MN; Sisters: LaVonne Radneicki and Blanche Gill both of Apache Junction, Arizona Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fillmore on May 9, 2008; brothers, Llewellyn, Merlyn and Harlen Howswill and sister, Shirley Blessum.
