Donald A.”Donny” Wass, 79 of Starkweather, ND died on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND. Mass of Christian Burial for Donny will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Assumption of Mary Catholic Church, Starkweather. Fr. Mark Wheelan will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Donny will be Lowell Hunt, Kenneth Paulson, Blaine Wass, David Thacker, Ronald Wass,Cory Wass, Mark Paulson and Douglas Paulson. Donald Arthur Wass was born on June 17, 1926 to George and Cecelia (Boehmer) Wass.at Starkweather where he also attended school. Donald entered the United States Army on June 18, 1945 at Jefferson, Missouri and was honorably discharged on December 4, 1946 at Camp Lee, Virginia. Donny was united in marriage to Mildred Decker on March 30, 1946 at St. Louis, Missouri. After his discharge, they returned to the Starkweather area and Donny worked for George Mikkelson Farms for 21 years. In 1967 they moved into Starkweather where Donny worked on road maintenance for the county until 1987 when he retired due to his health. Donny and Mildred have both been residents of the Good Samaritan Center since 2000. Donny was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Starkweather American Legion. Donny will be missed by his many friends and relatives. Donny is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mildred “Mickey” of Devils Lake Brother: Duane Wass and his wife, Arlene also of Devils Lake Foster Child: Mark Larimore and his family of Rapid City, South Dakota Many Nieces, Nephews and Special Friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cecelia and brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Luell Wass. Friends may sign the online register book at www.gilbertsonfuneralhome.com
