George P. Fazekas, 84 of Devils Lake, ND died after a short battle with cancer at his son’s home in Mekinock, ND on Thursday morning, May 4, 2006.
Mass of Christian Burial for George will be held on Monday, May 8, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as pallbearers for George will be his grandsons, Joshua, Jeremy, Nathan and Bryce Fazekas, Danny, Darren and Darrell Gray, Darren Klinger and friend, Kevin Spencer.
George P. Fazekas was born on March 30, 1922 on a farm at rural Calvin, ND, the son of George John and Mary (Pakoy) Fazekas. He was reared and educated in the Calvin area. He was a member of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), worked in Wild Life Service and also worked as a farm hand for several years. On February 21, 1945, George enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country during World War II. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, based in Hawaii. George was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington on November 8, 1946 with the rank of Corporal. George married Hilma Berg on December 20, 1957. George worked as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for the State Highway Department for 26 years, making his home in Calvin, Devils Lake and Cando. After he retired, George later moved back to Devils Lake where he made his home through the years. Hilma died on January 27, 1986.
George was a former member of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, traveling and playing cards. He truly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hilma; children, Pepper Fazekas and Tammy Fazekas Gray; sister, Betty Carnahan and brother, Fred Fazekas.
