Victorio Augustus Carter Camp was born on July 14, 1991 at Devils Lake, ND the loving son of Victorio Camp Sr. and Desiree Lohnes. He was raised by his grandparents and made St. Michael his home for most of his life. He attended Minnie H Elementary School, Warwick Public School and Devils Lake High School. He was presently working very hard towards his GED through Candeska Cikana Community College at Fort Totten, ND. In high school he participated in basketball and while living in Manderson, South Dakota he was involved in a Boxing Club and was also a Cross Country runner.
Vic’s passion was horses. He broke and trained horses and there wasn’t a horse around he couldn’t ride. He was a young horseman who was beginning his career as a jockey which was a dream come true for him. He had participated in many races including racing on tracks in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Grand Island, Nebraska and also Canterbury Downs in Shakopee, Minnesota. In 2009 he broke the track record at the North Dakota Horse Park in Fargo.
Vic’s temperament with horses was just an extension of the person he was; generous, kind-hearted, always a smile and always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He showed great respect for the elders and admired their courage and strength as they talked about their days as young people growing up on the Spirit Lake Nation.
Our hearts ache with sadness and tears fill our eyes but the memories of Victorio’s laughter and smiles will be forever in our hearts.
