Bruce Adrian McKay, ¡°Mato Ci¡¯sti©¯na¡± (Little Bear) 56 of Fort Totten, ND began his journey to the spirit world on Sunday, June 6, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Bruce died at Northwood Deaconess Care Center in Northwood, ND. A Wake will be held at the Fort Totten Recreation Center on Friday, June 11th beginning at 5:00 p.m. A Rosary and Scripture service will be held at 8:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Friday at 4:00 p.m. from Wal-Mart. Mass of Christian Burial for Bruce will be held at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Charles Leute OP and Fr. Brian Moen will concelebrate the Mass. Bruce will be laid to rest in St. Jerome¡¯s Catholic Cemetery, Crow Hill, ND. Serving as Active Pallbearers for Bruce are Scott Chase, Jerri Jensen, Brian McKay, K.J. Graywater, Cody Graywater, Garet Fox, Sam McKay and Bruce Mindt. Honorary Pallbearers are Bob ¡°Horse¡± Charboneau, Francis "Frenchy"Brown, Frank Lovejoy, Kenneth ¡°Knute¡± Graywater Sr., Allen McKay, Bob Gray, Roger ¡°Busty¡± McKay, Neil Hale, Dennis Corbin, Rick DuBois, Vincent Walker, Charlie Walker, Paul Yankton, Dan Cavanaugh, Ken McLaughlin, Randy Denne, Bernard TwoHearts, Elmer Brown, Jack Dauphinais, Carl WalkingEagle, Rosal family, Hermenia Belgarde family, Hermenia McKay, Merle McKay, Carl McKay family, J.D. Bruce Adrian McKay was born on June 4, 1954 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Mary Louise (McKay)Fox and Adrian Baker. Bruce attended Fort Totten BIA Elementary School and then attended Maddock High School. Bruce was an excellent carpenter who worked on many projects on the Spirit Lake Nation. He worked for Spirit Lake Housing, the Housing Improvement Program (HIP), and as an independent contractor for years. Recently Bruce worked for Sioux Manufacturing Corporation in Fort Totten until his health forced him to retire. Big Bruce was raised by his grandparents, Alphonsus and Mary Jane McKay, who taught him the Dakotah language at a very young age. He enjoyed speaking his language, especially telling jokes, playing softball, bowling, pool and horseshoes. Bruce was our beloved Brother, Uncle, Dakotah Grandpa, Nephew, Cousin, and was loved by all. Bruce leaves behind his family: brother, Robert (Euretta) McKay, and sisters, Beverly (Ken) Graywater, Susie Fox; and step-father, Roland Fox all of Fort Totten; aunt, Midge Chase of Fort Totten; uncle, Aloysius ¡°Fishy¡± McKay of Devils Lake; nieces and nephews, Garet Fox, Brian and Frannie McKay-Kimberly, James, Carmita, K.J., Cody, Kendell, Graywater-Chanoa Nestell and Kateri Demarce; First cousins: Carl, Merle, Allen, JD, Sam, Terrance, Connie, and Ila McKay, Scott Chase, Jerri and Janifer Jensen, Stanley, Greg, Chris and Monica Rosal, Angelita (Rosal) Bangston and Gary Foote. Special friend and grandchildren Sandra Dumarce, Jenny Jones, Desmond and Desiree Cameron; Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise (McKay)Fox and Adrian Baker; grandparents, Alphonsus and Mary Jane McKay; brother, Billy Fox and several aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
