Roy E. Curtis, 66 of rural Sarles, North Dakota died on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 due to injuries sustained in a farm accident.
Funeral Services for Roy will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Glenila Presbyterian Church, Calvin, ND. Rev. Adrian Olson will officiate with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation at the church will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Pallbearers for Roy will be Jerry Estenson, Ed Krumwiede, Kevin Samuelson, Raymond Samuelson, Rodney MacLean, Graham Oakland and Wes McDonald and all of Roy’s Dear Friends and Neighbors.
Roy E. Curtis was born June 15, 1940 in Langdon, ND the son of Frank and Grace (Benzing) Curtis. He was raised in the Sarles area and graduated from Sarles High School in 1958 and continued his education at Mayville State College receiving a BS in education. In the fall of 1962, Roy began his teaching career at Viking Elementary in Grand Forks, ND, teaching there until 1966. He then returned to Sarles as elementary principal in the Border Central School and also farming part-time with his father. In 1969, he began farming full-time and substitute teaching in the winter months. Roy was united in marriage to Janice Booth on July 17, 1965.
Roy was a member of the Sarles Presbyterian Church, serving on the church board for several years and was also a member of the Devils Lake Elks Lodge.
Roy is survived by his wife, Janice of Sarles
Children: Todd Curtis of Devils Lake
Teresa Kaspar and her husband, John of Camarillo, California
Grandchildren: Kristopher and Keaton Curtis
Nicole, Tyler and Jackson Kaspar
Brother: Earl Curtis and his wife, Bev of Kent, Washington
Sisters: Joyce Bucholz and her husband, Harry of Fargo
Shirley Janzen and her husband, Harry of Phoenix, Arizona
Linda Abair and her husband, Monte of Buchanan, Michigan
Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Curtis and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
