Delores Rosemond Olson, the loving daughter of Leonard and Olivia (Garfve) Olson was born on November 1, 1925 at Devils Lake, ND. She was reared here and attended Grand Harbor Township School. She moved with the family to Newfolden, MN where she would eventually meet and marry her beloved Reuben Skadsem on January 10, 1943 at Newfolden. They established their home in Newfolden, moving to the Lake Region area in 1949. They made St. Michael and later Devils Lake their home where they worked and raised their nine children. Reuben passed away on January 11, 2010.
First and foremost, Delores was a devoted wife and mother. To say she was a “hard worker” seems to be an understatement. Besides cooking, cleaning and caring for her family, Delores was known to feed threshing crews of 12-15 men, help with the farming and ranching, feed and process by hand hundreds of chickens each year. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital, as a seasonal worker on the Robert Woods farm and was employed with Sioux Manufacturing Corporation for over 15 year s. At the age of 75, she earned her CNA so she could work at Heartland Care Center.
But those hard working hands could also play soothing songs on the piano. She was also blessed with a voice for singing and yodeling. For years, she and Reuben made beautiful music together. In these later years, Delores enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with the many new friends she made on those outings.
Delores was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
Delores’ love had no boundaries and she was so very proud of each of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
