KIZZIE JANE AUKA, 93 OF DEVILS LAKE, FORMERLY OF BISBEE, N.D., DIED EARLY THURSDAY MORNING, APRIL 23, 2009 AT THE GOOD SAMARITAN CENTER, DEVILS LAKE, N.D.
KIZZIE WAS BORN MARCH 14, 1916, THE DAUGHTER OF CHARLES AND ALTIE (BARGER) LAMONT, AND WAS BORN, RAISED AND EDUCATED IN ROCK LAKE, N.D. WHILE GROWING UP, SHE WORKED AT HER PARENTS HOTEL.
ON SEPTEMBER 20, 1933, SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO SIGURD MARTIN AUKA, SON OF MARTIN AND JENSINE (SIMONSON) AUKA. TO THIS UNION, TWO CHILDREN WERE BORN, A SON, CHARLES EDWARD AND A DAUGHTER, KAREN JOAN. KIZZIE WAS A HOMEMAKER AND HELPED OUT ON THE FARM.
SHE WAS A GREAT COOK AND SEAMSTRESS, MAKING PAJAMAS AND SHIRTS FOR THE GRAND KIDS. SHE TAUGHT HERSELF TO CROCHET IN LATER YEARS, MAKING MANY AFGHANS.
KIZZIE AND SIGURD SPENT THEIR WINTERS IN MESA, ARIZONA, COMING BACK TO NORTH DAKOTA TO SPEND THEIR SUMMERS. KIZZIE WAS A MEMBER OF THE BISBEE LUTHERAN CHURCH.
HER SURVIVORS ARE: SON, CHARLES AUKA AND HIS WIFE, KAREN OF BISBEE AND FIVE GRANDCHILDREN: RUSSELL (STEPHANIE) OF MYLO, MIKKAL (WANDA) OF VALLEY CITY, N.D., DANIEL OF FARGO, N.D., ZACHERY RUSSELL AND JENSINE (ROBERT) NICOLOSI OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. ALSO SURVIVING ARE THIRTEEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND TWO GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.
KIZZIE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS; HUSBAND, SIGURD; DAUGHTER, KAREN JOAN RUSSELL, AND BROTHER, JAMES ALBERT LAMONT AND HALF BROTHER EDWIN (SONNY) WEBSTER
BURIAL WILL BE IN THE BISBEE CEMETERY IN THE SPRING.
