Frances M. Haugen, 87, 800 16th Ave. SE, Minot, ND died, Saturday, March 11, 2006 in a Minot Nursing Home.
Frances Mildred Haugen was born May 31, 1918 on a farm in rural Poplar, Montana, the daughter of George R. and Lavada Leah Fritts Hatfield. She was reared on her parents homestead near Navajo, Montana. Frances went to grade school in Navajo and was the first student to attend high school in that area. She graduated from Flaxville High School in the spring of 1936 and Trinity School of Nursing, Minot in the class of 1938. After graduation she was the assistant operating room manager for Trinity Hospital for the next three years. She was the oldest living graduate from Trinity School of Nursing.
While at the hospital, she met Wendell Haugen in 1940, whom she married on June 29, 1941 at her parents home rural Navajo. They established their home on a farm in Hiddenwood Township, rural Ryder, North Dakota. They made their home there for over 50 years. In 1992, they moved to Minot where they have since made their home. In October of 2005 they moved into the Edgewood Vista.
She was a member of Ryder Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and was a member of the women’s association. She was also a member of the Farmers Union.
Wendell and Frances enjoyed traveling for a number of years, especially in their motorhome, during which time they made many special friends.

Funeral: Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot,
Visitation: Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot on Monday (Today) March 13, 2006
