Genevieve, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Iverson) Oliver was born on March 6, 1921 at Devils Lake. She spent her youth growing up south of Doyon, attending elementary school at Odessa #2, three years of high school at Warwick and graduating from Doyon High School. She then went to St. Paul, MN to train and work as a switchboard operator.
Gen returned to the Doyon area and was united in marriage to Selmer Aronson on July 25, 1941 at Lakota. They established their home in the Doyon area and worked side by side for 32 years as owners and operators of Aronson Grocery. In addition to running the grocery store, Gen also served as the Doyon Postmistress those 32 years. Selmer died on August 27, 1993. Gen continued to make Doyon her home and lived independently in her own home until August 4, 2009 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Center.
Gen was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the WELCA and also a member of the Devils Lake Elks Lodge.
Gen’s priority was always that of a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and the neighborhood children, who lovingly called her “Grandma Gen”. She showed that love by sharing family meals, her delicious baked goods and produce from her gardens with her dear family and friends. When she was able to enjoy retirement, she enjoyed the beauty of nature, the birds who came into her yard and the relaxation, fun and family times at the lake. Gen was especially grateful that she was able to watch her grandchildren in all of their many activities. Each of her children and grandchildren were special to her and she was so proud of them and their accomplishments.
May she now rest in God’s peace.
