Alton T. Knutson, 80 of Grand Forks formerly of Devils Lake, ND died peacefully Saturday evening, May 2, 2009 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, ND.
Funeral Services for Alton will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Rev. Ken Bowman will officiate and burial will be in the Churchs Ferry Cemetery, rural Churchs Ferry.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Alton Knutson was born March 16, 1929 on the farm near Harlow, ND to Albert and Thilda (Erickson) Knutson and was a life long resident of North Dakota. He married Mardelle “Mardy” Nord on January 9, 1947 at Crookston, MN. Mardy died on September 18, 1995. Alton spent most of his life in sales until fulfilling his life long dream of owning and operating his own taxi cab service in Devils Lake. In 2005, Alton retired and later moved to Grand Forks to be closer to his daughter and family.
Alton is survived by daughters and son-in-law: Deb and Curtis Kurtz, Grand Forks, ND, Mariah Tenamoc, Bismarck; sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Deb Knutson, Glyndon, MN, Duane and Sheri Knutson, Devils Lake, Daryl and Phyllis Knutson and Dale and Lola Knutson all of Wahpeton.
11 Grandchildren and two Step Grandsons;
11 Great Grandchildren and 5 Step Great Grandchildren;
Sisters: Dolores Noltimier and Donna Schell both of Devils Lake
Brother and Sisters-In-Law; Roger and Yvonne Knutson of Devils Lake and Loreta “Darlene” Knutson of Moorhead, MN;
Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mardy; brother, Harold Knutson; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Phil Nilsen; step grandson, Matthew Prince; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arvid and Agnes Nord; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Oscar and Dorothy Nord and Henry Noltimer.
