Barbara J. LaBarre, 57, of Devils Lake, ND passed away peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2009 in her home. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. A Rosary led by the Catholic Daughters and Scripture Service will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be held one hour preceding the service. Mass of Christian Burial for Barb will be on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, Fr. Dale Kinzler, Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery following the service. Casket Bearers for Barb will be Scott Cox, Steve Schneider, Brad Schneider, Eric Schneider, Kyle Schneider, and Jacob Burdick. Reading the Scriptures will be Shera Brandvold. Gift Bearers will be Deloris Stromme, and Dean & LaVonne Ummel. Barb LaBarre, the loving daughter of Anthony and Irene (Schaan) Schneider was born on March 24, 1952 at Rugby, ND. At a young age, she moved with her parents to the Devils Lake area. Barb attended the Noonan Township School, rural Devils Lake and graduated from Devils Lake High School with the class of 1970. After graduating, Barb attended Lake Region Junior College. Barb was united in marriage to Donald F. LaBarre on July 24, 1971 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Barb spent most of her career employed with Western State Bank, serving most recently as a Vice President and Senior Credit Officer. Barb was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the community. She was involved in several committees and organizations, including Parish Council, Catholic Daughters, Rite to Life, St. Rita’s Circle of the Altar Society, Meals on Wheels, United Way Campaign, Western State Bank Good Neighbor Club, Lake Region Community College board, among several others. In addition to practicing her faith, Barb enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends. Spending time at the lake, camping and fishing, with her good friends and family was a favorite summer activity. When she was not at the lake, she enjoyed playing cards and games with close friends. Whenever possible, Barb spent time with her grandson, Jacob – her pride and joy! Barb, beloved wife and mother, is survived by her husband of 38 years, Don; her children, Jeff LaBarre and his wife Michelle (Frietsch) and grandson Jacob of East Peoria, IL, Neil LaBarre and his wife Robbyn (Gau) of West Fargo, ND, Bethany LaBarre of Langdon, ND, and close friend Aaron Elshaug of Devils Lake, ND; parents, Anthony and Irene Schneider, Devils Lake, ND; brothers and sisters, Clem (Linda) Schneider, Hickory, NC, Cathy (Bill) Cox, Bainbridge, GA, Robert (Vickie) Schneider, Crary, ND, Richard (Pam) Schneider, Harwood, ND, Ron (Shelley) Schneider, Devils Lake, ND, Bonita (Bill) Burdick, Devils Lake, ND and Shirley (Joe) Tavis, Hazen, ND; her mother-in-law Eileen LaBarre; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Delores Stromme, Bob (Lee) LaBarre, Janet (Jim) Volk, LaVonne (Dean) Ummel; Jim (Ginny) LaBarre, Carol (Bill) McDonald, Betty (Gordon) Mathiason, Linda Steinhaus, Lori Dennis, and Dale (Mary) Olson; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and special friends. Barb was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Schneider; her brother Pat (Cindy) Schneider who passed one day prior on December 3, 2009; niece, Alicia Burdick Uriell and other loved ones including father-in-law Lorion LaBarre, sisters-in-law Marie Olson and Judy Berg, and brother-in-law Floyd Stromme.
