Winifred Thomas, “Tasina Duta Win” (Red Shawl Woman) 82 of CrowHill (rural Fort Totten), ND passed away on Monday evening, February 8, 2010 at 11:08 p.m. at the Triumph Hospital, Fargo, ND. Funeral Services for Winifred will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Glen Walking Eagle Memorial Building, CrowHill. Fr. Charles Leute, O.P. and Rev. Jim Harris will officiate and burial will be in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten in the spring. The Wake for Winifred will be held at the Glen Walking Eagle Memorial Building on Sunday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. Serving as Casket Bearers for Winifred will be Chadd Keo, Mitch Keo, Clint Keo, David Keo, Duane Keo, John Thomas, Wade Nestel and Alton Nestel and also including Adrian Thomas Jr., Kendall Youngbear, Martin Whitetail, Jr., Vincent Thomas, Tyler Thomas and Brandon Bagola. Honorary Bearers will be Tiffany Foss, Helena Littleghost, Elizabeth Littleghost, Elaine Robertson, Pauline Greywater, Marlene Anderson, Christine Alex, Lorraine Greybear, Clara Brown, Norma Rainbow, Pam and Clayton Rainbow, Paul and Joann Yankton, Justin and Brooke(Black) Yankton, Millie Sherman, Solomon Sherman, Frank and Esther Hapa, Warren and Geraldine BuckElk, Gloria BuckElk, Donna Jackson, Henry and Violet BuckElk, Jeannie Cavanaugh and Georgeline McKay The procession to CrowHill will leave on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. from WalMart. Music will be provided by the Spirit Lake Singers, Frank Hapa, Marva Chapman, Louis BuckElk, Tony and Vina McDonald, Janessa Walking Eagle, Mary Folette and any drum groups who would like to share their songs. Winifred was born at Fort Kipp, Montana on September 26, 1927 the daughter of Michael and Mary (KillsAtNight) BuckElk. Winifred was united in marriage to Richard “Boke” Thomas Sr. for 62 years and to this union was born 12 children. Winifred moved to Spirit Lake Reservation and resided here all of her life. Winifred was a very respectful person, caring and loving. She was always there for her children and friends and would help in any way possible. She was the backbone of the family. Winifred will be missed dearly and will be kept in our memories forever. She is in God’s hands now. Winifred is survived by her sons,Mike, Richard Jr., Adrian Sr., and Casey Thomas and Paul Yankton; Daughters, Marilyn Thomas, Joyce Thomas, Wanda (Fred) Longie, Anna (Martin) Whitetail and Cynthia Thomas; Forty-eight Grandchildren and Ninety-four Great grandchildren; Sisters-in-law, Christine Alex and Lorraine Greybear; Winifred was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Duane, Tim and Milton; daughters, Annie Rene and Cheryl; husband, Richard Thomas Sr.; sister, Esther; brothers, Henry, Eli, Harvey, Gideon and Warren; grandsons, Andrew and Michael; granddaughter, Kari Ann.
