John Peters

John Peters, 96 of Lakota, formerly of Crary, ND died on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Lakota. Funeral Services for John will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Rev. Jamie Desai, Pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will officiate and burial will be in the Crary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Pallbearers for John will be Scott Dimmler, Mark Dimmler, Art Rohr, B.J. Rohr, Brian Dimmler, Neal Ackerman and Ronald Anderson. Music will be provided by Patty Cote. John Peters was born on November 19, 1909 at Crary to John H. and Johanna (Skaug) Peters. He was reared and educated at Crary. He started farming near Crary where he farmed until retiring in the fall of 1975. He later moved to Devils Lake, living for a time at the Odd Fellows Home and then moved to Lakota and was a resident of the Good Samaritan Center. John was a member of First Lutheran Church, Crary and the IOOF Lodge. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in raising Corriedale sheep for many years. In the winter months, John enjoyed spending time in Texas and Arizona. John is survived by many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Claude, Henry, Herman and Morris; sisters, Clara Zeman, Polly Peters, Emma Ackerman and Margaret Dimmler.
