Doris M. Eckerdt, 85 of Rolette, formerly of Rock Lake, ND died on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Presentation Care Center, Rolette. Funeral Services for Doris will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Rev. Arlyn Anfinrud will officiate and burial will be in the spring in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rock Lake. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Doris Mae Mitchell was born on August 9, 1920 at rural Rock Lake, ND the daughter of Walter S. and Bessie (Florey) Mitchell. Doris was reared and educated in the Rock Lake area, attending Rock Lake High School. Doris was united in marriage to Jon R. “Bud” Eckerdt on January 3, 1938 at Rock Lake. Doris and Jon lived in many different locations including Hansboro, Rock Lake, Rolla and Belcourt, ND, Crown Point, New Mexico, eventually moving to Cortez, Colorado where they owned and operated a berry farm. While living in Rolla, Doris worked at the Rolla Hospital and also for Dr. Munro at the Rolla Clinic. Due to health problems, they moved to Rolette to be closer to family. Jon died on July 12, 2003. Doris continued to make her home in Rolette. Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rock Lake. Doris is survived by her Sons: Robert “Bob” Eckerdt and his wife, Fern of Rolette Jon “Jack” Eckerdt of Azel, Texas Grandchildren: Robert J. (Denise) Eckerdt of Grand Forks, ND Joy S. (Scott) McKusick of Minneapolis Michael T. Eckerdt also of Minneapolis Jaclyn Eckerdt Lewis Eckerdt both of Texas Great Grandchild: Brodee Eckerdt Brothers: Elmer S. Mitchell of Rolla, ND Homer F. (Vera) Mitchell of Grand Forks, ND Many Nieces and Nephews also survive.
