Marvin J. Anderson Sr., 67 of rural St. Michael, ND died on Sunday morning, March 26, 2006 at his home the Double M Ranch.
Mass of Christian Burial for Marvin will be held on Friday, March 31, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND. Fr. Paul Ruge and Fr. Charles Leute, O.P. will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will be on the hill overlooking the Double M Ranch next to his dear son, Marvin Jr.
A Wake and Rosary Service will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2006 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Recreation Center with the Rosary Service at 8:00 p.m.
The procession to the Recreation Center will leave the Wal-Mart Parking Lot at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be Bruno Cavanaugh, Michael “Junior” Cavanaugh, Sam Merrick Sr., Kenneth “Butch” Gourd, David “Davey” Davidson Jr., and Clifford Cavanaugh.

Marvin John Anderson Sr. was born September 1, 1938 in Fort Totten, ND to Michael Cavanaugh and Emma Otakoyake and adopted parents John and Julia Anderson. He attended Elementary School in St. Michael, ND and High School in Marty, SD. Marvin was united in marriage to Marlene Gourd on April 3, 1965 in Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten, ND.
During his lifetime, he was employed with the Devils Lake Sioux Tribal Housing Office, the missile site in Nekoma, ND, and the Spirit Lake Tribe as the Building Manager for 12 years until he retired. He served pm the Tribal Council as the Fort Totten District Representative with Tribal Chairman, Louis GoodHouse. He served on various committees including the TERO Commission, Gaming Commission and was instrumental in the development of the United Tribes Committee. He played an important role in the planning of the Family Development Center in CrowHill, ND and the first 60 units of housing in Fort Totten,
Marvin was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and Spirit Lake Nation member.
Some of Marvin’s hobbies include: raising and racing horses and watching his grandchildren (Lawrence and John Lightning and Grant Davidson) play hockey for the Devils Lake Flames in Devils Lake. He loved traveling throughout the United States and Canada watching his children and grandchildren participate in pow-wows. He enjoyed attending rodeos and horse track races throughout the US and Canada.
Marvin was a people person who enjoyed discussing politics, horses and sports with friends and relatives. He especially enjoyed cooking for his family. Marvin was always generous and kind and will be missed by many.
