Marjorie A. Kirk, “Tahca Winyan” (Deer Woman), 57 of St. Michael, ND died on Monday, March 1, 2010 at her daughter’s home in Dunseith, ND. Mass of Christian Burial for Marjorie will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND. Fr. Brian Moen will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. A Wake will be held at the Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael on Sunday beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael and the Tekakwitha Center will leave at 5:00 p.m. from Wal-Mart. Serving as Casket Bearers for Marjorie will be Perry Fassett,Troy Woods Jr., Walter Cavanaugh Jr., Delbert Herald, Donovan Kahnapace, Jeremy DeMarce, Jarrett Smith Sr. and Robbie Graywater. Serving as Honorary Bearers will be all of Marjorie’s Dear Family and Many Friends. Music will be provided by the Rhythm Riders, Eagle Tail Singers and Tony and Vina McDonald. Marjorie Ann was born on July 8, 1952 at Fort Totten, ND the daughter of William Henry and Mary Melinda (Littleghost) Herald. She was raised in the St. Michael area and lived most of her life on the Spirit Lake Nation. She attended Little Flower School in St. Michael and Warwick Public School. She and her son, Marlin moved to Roswell, New Mexico where she received her GED at the Roswell Job Corp. They returned to North Dakota and Marjorie attended Little Hoop Community College at Fort Totten. Marjorie was at one time married to Richie Ross and they had a daughter, Nicole. She married Larry Cree and to this union was born Alithea and Lorry. Marjorie served as the director of the Youth, Drug and Alcohol Program for the Spirit Lake Tribe for several years. She especially enjoyed working with the youth of the Spirit Lake Nation. She also worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake and Sioux Manufacturing Corporation. Most recently, she had been employed with the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort. Marjorie was united in marriage to Leonard Kirk and they made their home in Fort Totten and raised as their own Alexis. After her marriage, she and Jay both shared the joy of working with the youth of the area. Leonard “Jay” died on April 17, 2009. Marjorie enjoyed many pastimes including Bingo, cross word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles and collecting knick knacks at the many rummage sales she loved to attend. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the Romance novels. She loved to cook and watched to cooking channel for new ideas and recipes and then shared her creations with her family and friends. Her most precious time was the time she spent with her grandchildren. We have lost someone very special and will miss her always but we will hold her love in our hearts forever. Marjorie is survived by her children: Marlin (Rebecca) Herald of Fargo, Nicole Ross of Grand Forks, Alithea (Lonnie Falcon) Cree of Dunseith, Lorry (Daniel Hofer) Cree of Fargo and granddaughter, Alexis Cree whom they raised also of Fargo; Grandchildren: Daisy Herald; Alayna Ross, James Graywater, Kailon Ross, Tanner Cavanaugh and Conner Cavanaugh; Alexis Cree, Tyra Cree and Tyler Cree; Xavier Buckles, Starson Buckles, Haley Buckles, Riley Buckles, Daniel Hofer and Rebecca Hofer; her mother and step-father, Mary and James Thompson Sr. of Rolette; sisters, Jeanette Herald and Trudy Theresa Blackbird of St. Michael and Ronda (Rodney Sr.) McKay of Regina, Saskatchewan; brothers, twins, Virgil Herald of Devils Lake and Vincent Herald of St. Louis, Missouri, Willis (Julie) Herald, Fort Totten, Delbert Herald, Devils Lake, James (Mary) Thompson Jr., St. Michael and Donovan Kahnapace also of Regina; aunts, Arlene Littleghost Gomez and Maxine Littleghost Peltier; uncles, Lawrence Littleghost and Leroy Littleghost; Marjorie was preceded in death by her father, William Henry Herald; husband, Jay Kirk; son, Avery FlyingHorse; brothers, William Darren Herald and Daniel Herald; sisters, Celestine Herald, April Herald, Patsy Herald and Roxanne (Herald) Lenoir; nephews, Gabe Smith Jr. and Christopher DeMarce; niece, Danarie Herald; maternal grandparents, James and Agnes Feather Mazakahomni Littleghost Sr.; paternal grandparents, Emile and Sarah Pasang Herald; aunts, Ruby and Ruth Herald; uncles, Ronald and Edward Herald, Jordon, Francis, Eugene and James Littleghost Jr.; great great grandfather, Hein Inka Duta (Red Tip); great great great grandfather, Wambdi Sapa (Black Eagle).
