Bernice B. Alice, 90 of Devils Lake, ND formerly of Helena, Arkansas died on Saturday evening, April 11, 2009 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Bernice will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Rev. Jimmy Harris, Pastor of Grace Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Munich, ND in the spring. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Bernice will be her grandchildren, Travis Craig, Justin Bye, Bryan Bye, Kelsie Bye, Fallon Motz, and Kierney Motz. Bernice, the daughter of Alcus D. and Viola (Pitman) Jones was born on September 22, 1918 in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas near RoseBud. Bernice would live, work and make her home in Arkansas for most of her life. Bernice’s mother died in child birth which necessitated her Dad to seek help in raising his three children including grandparents and other family and friends. Bernice was united in marriage to Oscar L. Sullivan and due to the economic times, they were frequently on the road working, but eventually settled in Helena where Oscar worked as an electrician. Oscar passed away and Bernice continued to make Arkansas her home. Bernice was united in marriage to Sidney Alice and they established their home in Arkansas. Bernice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother always putting family first. She did work for several years at West Gibson’s Store when the children were older. In 2005, Bernice moved to her daughter’s home in Devils Lake. Bernice loved to garden with a special interest in flowers. She loved new life that she always saw in the smiling faces of babies and children. Bernice was a devout Baptist all her life. She lived her life of faith and love with great zeal. Bernice is survived by her loving children, Norma Nosbusch and her husband, Melvin of Devils Lake. Leland Sullivan and his wife, Suzanne of Grimsby, England Dennis Sullivan and his wife, Judy of Jonesboro, Arkansas Eight Grandchildren, Twelve Great Grandchildren and Two Great Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Andrew Jones and Charles C. Jones and great granddaughter, Nicole.
