Lucas James was born on March 6, 1980 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Carole J. (Whiteshield) and Lawrence Littleghost Jr. He grew up in the countryside of St. Michael, ND and attended schools in Wahpeton and Four Winds School in Fort Totten. Lucas worked with the Summer Youth Program for the Spirit Lake Tribe and also worked for a time at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort.
Lucas lived life to the fullest and enjoyed hunting and jogging. He always enjoyed getting together with his brothers and friends for a game of pool. Lucas was very gifted as an artist and also as a writer, sharing his poems with family and friends.
Lucas was very smart and active as he grew up. He brought a lot of bright smiles to a lot of friends and relatives. Lucas was well known for his kindness and respect that he had for his people. Lucas resided in St. Michael before moving to Fargo-Moorhead to start his own family. His precious son, Logan James was born on January 20, 2002 and Lucas would do anything for his only child. He loved spending a lot of time with his son and friends. He had a great personality and such a good sense of humor. He loved to carry on good conversations. Lucas was always there to help if you needed a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. His interests were drawing, listening to his kind of music, (which he was well known for) and spending a lot of time with his nieces and nephews. He was the best uncle that anybody could have. He loved nature very much.
In 2005 he moved to Oglala, South Dakota. He called it his second home where he touched a lot of the peoples’ hearts. He became a close relative to a lot of different families on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Lucas was always ready to joke and tease with everyone he introduced himself to. He will be greatly missed by many friends, relatives and especially by his son, Logan James, but never forgotten.
