Leona M. Winslow, 87 of Devils Lake formerly of Carpio, ND died on Friday, December 23, 2005 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Leona will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Pastor Don Reynolds will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Monday, December 26, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and visitation on Tuesday will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Leona will be Michael Thomason, Mike S. Thomason, Cliff Van Buren and Chad Held.
Music will be provided by Patty Cote.
Leona Marie Melby was born on April 15, 1918 at Carpio, ND the daughter of Lars and Mina (Jenson) Melby. She was reared and educated in Carpio, graduating from Carpio High School. Leona was united in marriage to William “Bud” Cashman on July 2, 1938 at Minot, ND. They lived in Maza, ND and in 1940 moved to Devils Lake where Leona lived the rest of her life. During World War II, Leona worked at the Montgomery Wards Store in Devils Lake. Mr. Cashman died on November 9, 1958. Leona married Harold Winslow on December 29, 1962 and made their home together in Devils Lake. Mr. Winslow died on December 20, 1978.
Leona was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Leona was an avid reader and was very much into politics. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Leona felt so blessed to have been able to be in her own home with the help of her family all these years. Leona counted the time spent with her dear family as her most precious.

Daughter: Candice Thomason and her husband, Michael of Devils Lake
Sons: Verne Cashman, Sidney, Montana
William Cashman also Devils Lake
Six Grandchildren: Michael S. Thomason, Chad Held, Cliff Van Buren, Ronda (Erik) Hakso, Heidi (Ray) Martinez and Gina (Tracy) Sheppard
Five Great Grandchildren: Jonah Hakso, Izaac Martinez, Audrey Martinez, Nicole Sylva,Bryton Thornton and Brandy Stocking
Daughter-In-Law: Marilyn Winslow, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Sister: June (Charles) Sandstrom, Mesa, Arizona
Brothers: Warren (Sylvia) Melby, Minot, ND
George Melby, Las Vegas, Nevada
Many Nieces and Nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, William Cashman and Harold Winslow; stepson, Frank Winslow; great granddaughter, Kendra Held; daughter-in-law, Donna Held and brothers, Melvin, Ray, James and Edward Melby.
