He was reared and educated in Devils Lake, attending St. Mary's Academy and graduating with the class of 1967. He attended Lake Region Junior College for one year, then enlisted in the United States Army on January 3, 1968. Terry served his country in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on December 18, 1969 with the rank of Specialist 4. After his discharge, Terry returned to Devils Lake and farmed with his Dad until his death in 1970 and then farmed with his brothers. Terry was united in marriage to Joanne H. Miller on October 16, 1970 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They established their home in Devils Lake, where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. For the past ten years, Terry has worked for Lake Region Grain of Devils Lake. Terry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, former member of the VFW. Terry was the true outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, the beauty of nature, the simple things in life and anything that would involve being able to spend time with his family and friends. He was a hard worker but the gentle nature of Terry was most notable when he was "Grandpa Terry" to his three grandsons, when he was watering the plants at work and when he enjoyed and commented on the beauty of the flowers Joanne was growing. Terry's concern was always for others, never himself. The "best days" of any week were the days he spent with his family. Each trial in Terry's life was handled with faith, patience and understanding. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. Terry is survived by his wife Joanne; children, Steve Dion, Charles Dion and his wife, Elizabeth and Kristine "Gusie" Dion and her fiance, Chris Broyles all of Devils Lake. Grandsons, Taylor, Nathan and Benjamin Dion; sisters and brothers, Tom (Mary M.) Dion of Devils Lake; Tim Dion and Patrick (Patty) Dion both of Fort Mohave, Arizona; Patricia (Morris) Keeling of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Howard (Mary Anne) Dion of Enumclaw, Washington; mother-in-law, Georgia Miller of Devils Lake; aunts, Luella Schafer, Alice Doyle and Mary Iljana. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Terry was preceded in death by his parents; son, David and father-in-law, Ed Miller.
