Gladys L. Berg, 93 of Devils Lake formerly of Penn, Churchs Ferry and Rolla, ND died on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Gladys will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Interment will be in the Churchs Ferry Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday, March 3, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of service. Gladys L. Stoe was born on December 19, 1912 on the family farm, rural Penn, ND the daughter of Anton and Anna (Berg) Stoe. She was reared and educated in Penn, graduating from Penn High School in the class of 1931. She then attended the Chicago Beauty College in Fargo, ND. She returned to Penn and helped on the family farm. On February 26, 1942, Gladys was united in marriage to Melvin Berg in Devils Lake. They lived for a time in Devils Lake, and then moved to Rolla, ND. While living in Rolla, Gladys worked at Clara’s Style Shop and Dress Shop. In 1951, Mel and Gladys moved to Churchs Ferry and owned and operated the S & B Bar until 1965. Melvin died on July 23, 1970. Gladys continued to make her home in Churchs Ferry moving to Devils Lake in 1996. Gladys lived in her own home until January of 2006 when she moved to Heartland Care Center. Gladys was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Churchs Ferry. Gladys had many talents and pastimes. She had a very keen eye for style and interior design. She used this talent while working in the dress shop and also in her own home. She was a wonderful cook and the Threshing crews of the area always raved about Gladys cooking. She was a fastidious housekeeper and truly enjoyed housecleaning and took great pride in a clean, comfortable home. Gladys had a charming sense of humor and a heart of gold. Gladys is survived by her foster daughter, Susanne Rieger of Fargo, ND Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; brothers, Alfred, Palmer, Helmer, Lyle and Ralph Stoe; sisters, Cora Anderson, Anna Anderson and Agnes Anderson.
