Louis T. Machart, 73 of Devils Lake formerly of the Lankin area passed away on Friday, February 17, 2006 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND.
Memorial Services for Louis will be held at the Gilbertson Home Chapel, Devils Lake on Monday, February 27, 2006 at 1:30 p.m.
Interment will be in the spring in the Machart Cemetery, rural Lankin, ND.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Honorary Pallbearers for Louis will be Louis’ friends and fellow residents, Duane Martin, Cynthia Timms, Glen Miller, Elizabeth Dumont, Ardis Drader and Audrey Parisien and the caring residential staff of Connie Swinland, Erica Gjerve, Beverly Oehlke, Karla Anderson, Jean Helseth, Lonna Siedschlaw, Marti Stensli and Deborah Lien and all those who so loving cared for Louis.
Louis Theodore Machart was born August 25, 1932 in Loma, ND the son of Louis T. and Mary (Gurley) Machart. Mentally handicapped, he lived at home until he was nine years old, then became a resident of Grafton State School in 1941. He was transferred to San Haven in Dunseith, ND in 1968, then moved to one of Lake Region Corporation’s group homes in Devils Lake in 1987 where he has since resided.
For the past 19 years, Louis had been involved in the Special Olympics, and the annual cancer Relay for Life. He attended classes at the Day center, attended Bible Camp in the summer and enjoyed going shopping, eating out, attending concerts and Sunday worship services. He also loved to purchase the daily paper for the home. When possible, he loved to fish.

Mary Elizabeth and David Strand of Aitkin, MN
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Louis was preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers, Frank and Donald Machart; sisters, infant sister, Louella Machart, Eleanor Kieffer, June Forsland and Marion Klein.
