Floyd James Stromme, 73, of Broomfield, Colorado, formerly of Devils Lake ND, a former North Dakota Senator died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center, Lafayette CO. Mass of Christian Burial for Floyd will be held on Monday, January 30, 2006 at 10AM at St Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, ND. Fr. Joseph Christensen will celebrate the Mass. Graveside services will be held at St Benedict’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Crary ND at 1:30 p.m., Monday, following lunch at the Parish Center. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Also on Sunday, bars and coffee will be served in the church basement beginning at 5:00 p.m. and visitation at the church will begin at 5:30 p.m. The Rosary and Scripture Service will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday with the Knights of Columbus leading the Rosary. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Floyd will be his grandsons: Justin, Ryan and Kale Stromme, Aaron Blazer and nephews, Jim Stromme and Mark Olson. Floyd James Stromme was born on July 11, 1932 in Devils Lake, the son of Clarence and Pauline (Zettler) Stromme. He was raised and educated in Noonan Township and attended high school at Devils Lake Central. While in high school he was active in cheerleading and was also a Golden Glove Boxer. He worked in California at General Motors following graduation. Floyd was united in marriage to Delores LaBarre on September 22, 1953 in Devils Lake. He entered the U.S Army in 1954, serving his country with the First Armor Division at Fort Hood, Texas and was Honorably Discharged in 1957. He returned to North Dakota, and they made their home on the family farm. There he was engaged in both farming and the construction business until retiring in 1986. He then moved to Colorado where he worked as a Maintenance Foreman until his death. Floyd was very active in the community and served on many boards, including Ramsey County Water Board, Cato Township Board, Community Development Board and Miramonte Condo Association. He was also a life member of the Elks Lodge #1216. He served as a Director of Nodak Rural Electric for 24 years and 10 years as a North Dakota State Senator. Floyd loved the outdoors, farming, carpentry, hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards and games with his many friends. Floyd is survived by his wife, Delores of 52 years Children: Craig (Debbie) Stromme of Devils Lake, ND Dan Stromme of Carbondale, Colorado Cindy (Tim) Blazer of Gilbert, Arizona Scott (Cindy) Stromme of Grand Forks Gwen Moreno of Phoenix, Arizona Seven Grandchildren: Justin (Heather) Stromme of Northwood ND; Ryan Stromme of Ashland WI; Aaron Blazer of Fargo ND; Amber (Jeremy) Acuna of Queen Creek AZ; Kale Stromme of Devils Lake ND and Juliano and Isabella Moreno of Phoenix AZ. Three Great Grandchildren: Tristan Blazer of Fargo ND; Diego and Dakota Acuna of Queen Creek AZ. Brothers: Art Olson of Devils Lake ND Lloyd (Mavis) Stromme of Fargo ND Sister: Marie (Gary) Anderson of Reynolds ND Many nieces and nephews also survive. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Pauline Stromme; brothers John Stromme and Norman Olson and sister, Olivia Hunt.
