Myrtle “Mickey” Collins, 87 passed away on March 20, 2009 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Mickey will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Ken Bowman will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Casket Bearers for Mickey will be Armen Hanson, Collin Hanson, Tony Hart, Joshua Hart, Nikki Alexander, Meribeth Hart, Amy Wood and Eric Wood. Music will be provided by Russell and Lynda Pearson. Mickey Hanson was born March 8, 1922 in Morris Township to Martin and Ingeborg (Nelson) Hanson. She grew up in Morris Township and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1939. She moved to Jamestown, North Dakota in 1961, where she met Joseph A. Collins while working as a clerk. They were married on July 4, 1970 in Mitchell, South Dakota and established their home Jamestown. Mickey loved to take walks in Clausen Park. In 1988, they moved to Devils Lake after their retirement. Mr. Collins passed away on August 10, 1992, and Mickey continued to live in Devils Lake moving to Heartland Care Center on January 18, 2005 where she enjoyed visiting with her family, friends and the staff who took such wonderful care of her. Throughout her life, Mickey enjoyed taking walks, and shared her love of nature with her children and grandchildren. She was known for her wonderful cooking, quick sense of humor, and as a fun-loving grandmother. Mickey was a member of St. Olaf Church, the Lakewood Birthday Club, and was on the Board of the Devils Lake Heritage Center. She is survived by her son, Tom Hart of Litchfield, MN; sister, Lily Beth Appleton of San Jose, CA; brother, Walter Hanson and his wife, Helen Mae of Devils Lake; Grandchildren, Tony Hart, Nikki (Lance) Alexander, Meribeth Hart, Joshua (Jenny) Hart, Erika Hart, Evan Hart, Jason (Robin) Kidder, Rebecca (Stephan) BringsPlenty, Eric (Beatrice) Wood and Amy Wood; Great Grandchildren: Paige, Parker, Ashley, Brady, Connor, Madisyn, Stevi, Karlyle, Tully, Kordell, John Maxwell and Allison. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, baby Marie and Marcia Wood; brother, Hilmer Hanson; sister, Irma Ziegler.
