Clara Person

Clara Person, 94 of Devils Lake formerly of the Bisbee/Arndt area of North Dakota died on Sunday evening, November 16, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Clara will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with burial in the Arndt Cemetery, rural Cando, ND. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Cory Hauck, Matt Person,.Joel Stein and Ronald Peterson Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein. Clara was born on July 3, 1914 at Bisbee, ND the daughter of John and Minnie (Malmedal) Krokan. She attended Loe Country School for the first eight years and then attended Bisbee High School graduating in the class of 1932. Clara was united in marriage to William Markwardt in 1932. They farmed in the Arndt and Bisbee area for many years. Clara was active in the church and Ladies Aid. For several years she was a leader for the Farmers Union children in local activities and camp activities at the Peace Gardens. She was also a member of the Bisbee Senior Citizens and at one time served as the President. William passed away January 4, 1975. After William’s death, Clara continued to make her home in Bisbee until her marriage to Myron Person on December 10, 1981. They established their home in Devils Lake where Clara has lived through the years. Myron passed away on December 20, 1999. After moving to Devils Lake, Clara became a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and WELCA. Clara was a woman of strong faith and a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her memory will be forever in our hearts. Clara is survived by her son, Gary Markwardt and his wife, Patty of Newport, Washington; Daughters, Jan Day and her husband, William of Olympia, Washington; Lyn Rea and her husband, Wayne of Witchita, Kansas; Carol Moore of Denver, Colorado and Nita Person of Devils Lake; Step Sons: Robert Person of Bismarck, ND and Douglas Person and his wife, Patricia of Fargo, ND; Fourteen Grandchildren Eighteen Great Grandchildren Sister: Mildred Peterson of Cando, ND Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Clara was preceded in death by her husbands, William Markwardt and Myron Person; sons, Duane and Gene Markwardt; daughter, Ruth Swanson sister, Tilda Church and brother, Joel Krokan
