Viola Halldorson, 98 of Devils Lake, ND died on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Viola will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Jamie Desai will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Time of Sharing at 7:00 p.m led by Rick Halldorson. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Viola will be Brad Halldorson, Steve Halldorson, Alex Halldorson, Rick Halldorson, Jeff Stenseth and Gary Ertmann.
Music will be provided by Dolores Stenseth, Monica Sabo and Mary Oehlke, vocalists and Lynda Pearson, pianist.
Viola and her twin sister, Mayme were born to Ole and Anna (Hagen) Estenson on January 22, 1911 at rural McClusky, ND where she grew up and received her elementary education. At the age of 11, she moved with her folks to rural Bottineau, ND and finished her schooling there. At age 22 years, the family moved to rural Devils Lake and Viola met and married Leslie Halldorson on December 1, 1934. To this union a son was born-Richard L. Halldorson on September 12, 1935. They lived at rural Devils Lake for many years then moved into Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their son. Viola was employed at Mercy Hospital for 15 years as a nurse’s aide until she retired. Leslie died on September 22, 1979. Viola continued to make Devils Lake her home and for the past nine years has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.
Viola was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the ALCW all of her life. She was also a member of the Rebekahs.
Viola is survived by her loving and caring family.

Great Grandchildren: Alex Halldorson and Shana Halldorson, Devils Lake
Nicholas Halldorson and his wife, Kelly of Clarksville, Tennessee
Great Great Grandson: Aidan Halldorson also of Clarksville;
Sisters: Arlowene Halldorson and Dolores Stenseth both of Devils Lake
Brother: Olger “Jack” Estenson of Napa, California
Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie; brothers, Glenn, Olai, Laverne, Clarence and Leo Estenson and her twin sister, Mayme Gifford.
