Margaret L. Rohrer, 94 of Devils Lake formerly of Churchs Ferry, ND died on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake under the care of Mercy Hospice of Devils Lake.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake with Rev. David G. Birkeland officiating.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, October 16, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
Music will be provided by Jody Osborne and Michael Rohrer.
Margaret Louise was born May 29, 1915 at Churchs Ferry, ND to William and Flora Hausmann. She attended school in Churchs Ferry, graduating in 1933 and attended Minot State College from 1934-1936 where she received the standard degree in elementary education, majoring in music. She also studied for one summer session at the University of Chicago. Margaret taught grade school and music at Crary, Hunter, and Minot, ND from 1936-1944 and was a substitute music teacher at Churchs Ferry for many years. On January 5, 1944, she was united in marriage to Darwin Rohrer in St. Paul, MN at the home of her sister, Neva Farley. They farmed and made their home near Churchs Ferry until Darwin retired in 1975, subsequently moving to Devils Lake in 1980.
Margaret was active in high school, singing in choruses and choirs, played basketball, was a member of 4-H, and studied piano. After college, she was a Girl Scout leader and directed community and church choirs. She was a member of Eastern Star, holding local, district, and state offices. She was a member of the Devils Lake Music Club and the Lake Region Community Concert Association.
Margaret was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, first in Churchs Ferry and finally in Devils Lake. She was the pianist for the Churchs Ferry Methodist Church for most of her married life until she and Darwin moved to Devils Lake. After Darwin died February 18, 1989 at Grand Forks, North Dakota, Margaret continued to live in Devils Lake.
Margaret is survived by her two children, Michael Rohrer and his wife Colleen of Churchs Ferry; Kate and her husband Hiroshi Kato of London, England and four grandchildren, Travis, Jacob, Jonathan, and Emmy.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and all her brothers and sisters, Luverne Hausmann, Neva (Malcolm) Farley, Dorothy (Gordon) Mettler, Lenwel Hausmann, Robert Hausmann and Mildred (Joe) Weaver.
