Pearl Ann was born April 26, 1910 at Ross, North Dakota, the daughter of Leonard and Odessa (Somdalen) Retterath. She was reared and educated at Ross and Manitou, ND. While in high school she played on the girl’s basketball team.
On May 28, 1928, Pearl was united in marriage to Ormond Reynen in Minot, ND. They established their home on a farm in rural Tagus, ND. They later moved to Devils Lake where they continued to farm in Ontario Township, rural Devils Lake. They farmed through the years until Ormond’s death on September 19, 1958. After Ormond’s death, Pearl moved into Devils Lake to make her home. As a young widow, Pearl’s faith gave her the strength to carry on through the years. She began working at Mercy Hospital and was employed in the Pediatrics Department for over 16 years until she retired in 1975.
Pearl was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Grand Harbor Homemakers, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Devils Lake Craft Club.
Pearl was so thankful for the love and care of her family which allowed her to live independently for so many years. Her greatest joys were from her children and grandchildren.
Pearl is survived by her daughters, Kay Mootz and her husband, Bud of Devils Lake and Gloria Wilhelmi of Gettysburg, South Dakota.
