Cleo F. Hapa, Tate Ùhomyai Wi (Whirlwind Woman) 54 of rural Tokio, ND died at her home on Friday, August 21, 2009. Funeral Services for Cleo will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church, rural Tokio. Pastor Larry Thiele will officiate, assisted by Canon Jackie Bernacchi of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Burial will be in the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church on Thursday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. The procession to the Dakotah Oyate Church will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday from the Wal-Mart Lot. Serving as Casket Bearers for Cleo will be Gerard Thompson, Kenneth Hill, James Little, Cletus Lawrence Nilus BlackLance, Aloysius Cloud, Jesse Cavanaugh and Vance Thompson, Sr. Honorary Bearers will be the Fort Totten Spirit Lake Health Center, Fort Totten Spirit Lake Ambulance Service, Grand Forks Altru Hospital Staff, Spirit Lake Sioux Tribal Council, Spirit Lake Sioux Tribal Chairperson, Dr. Rabadi and the Dialysis Staff, Drivers, Jerry Guy, Bob Charboneau and Craig Brown, School Classmates and all the people who attended sweats and sundances. Music will be provided by Tony and Vina McDonald and the Rhythm Riders Cleo F. Young was born on June 26, 1955 at Devils Lake, ND the daughter of Gabe and Evelyn (LeftBear) Young. She lived her entire life in the Woodlake/Tokio area. She attended grade school in St. Michael and graduated from Warwick High School in May of 1973. She was united in marriage to Robert Hapa on December 23, 1991. Cleo worked as a Teacher’s Aide for the Tokio Headstart and was later employed at Sioux Manufacturing Corportation from October of 1974 through June of 1990. Most recently she had worked for the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort. Cleo enjoyed sewing star quilts, playing bingo, beading, garage sales, reading, playing softball and attending sweats and sundances. Cleo loved spending time with her family and friends and especially spending time with her granddaughters. Her humorous personality made knowing her a great pleasure. Cleo is survived by her son, Erich Longie, Jr. and his special friend, Lea KillsPlenty of Tokio; Granddaughters: Kylia and Raelyn Longie; Husband: Robert Hapa of Sioux Valley, Manitoba; Brothers: Lawrence Dean Young~Wesley Young~Justin Jay Young; Sister: Trudy (Clint) LaRoque; Aunts: Pauline (Frank) Myrick~Ramona LeftBear~Sharon (Albin) Georgeson~Hilda (Louis) Garcia~Anne Redfox~Alberta Redfox~Kay Redfox; Uncles: Miles LeftBear~Martin Blueshield~Mike OneBear; Special Friend: Pam Casey; Great Aunt: Edna Taylor Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, Gabe and Evelyn Young; brother, Trunson Wade Young; grandparents, Peter Young and Anna (Yuĥaĥa) Young Blueshield and Simon and Sarah (Hopkins) LeftBear; aunts, Jean Blueshield, Theresa Blueshield, Alice (Solomon) Young Dumarce; uncle, Jonas LeftBear; nephews, Barry Young and Hunter Robertson; great grandmother, Rose Sherman; great uncles, John and Theresa (Dunn) LeftBear, Gabe Young and Eli Taylor; great aunts, Martha (LeftBear) Glaser, Lili Chase, Lydia Young, Rachel Wanna and Grace Lambert.
