Cecilia Lauinger Windjue was born on June 19, 1923, to Philip and Eva (Kraft) Lauinger on the family farm near Webster, ND. She grew up and attended schools in the Cando area.
Cecilia was united in marriage to Leland Windjue on October 20, 1943 in Yuma, AZ. After their marriage they lived for a time in AZ, NC, SC and GA. Upon Leland’s discharge from the service in 1945, they established their home north of Devils Lake, where they farmed and raised their family. Cecilia served for several years on the Morris Township School Board and was a member of St. Benedict‘s church. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and after retiring and moving to town in 1979, she became very active in Catholic Daughters and was President of Saint Rita’s Circle for many years.
Cecilia’s legacy is being a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was cherished and loved by her family and many friends. She was well-known for her ability to sew and fix anything, serve round the clock meals, bake “grandma buns” and maintain a bottomless cookie jar. Many were blessed to receive her beautifully stitched pictures, handmade quilts, embroidered towels and personalized Christmas stockings.
Cecilia was a blessing to her family, and a second mother to many. She was generous and kind, honest and upright and always there with her helping hand. She touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew her.
In her 85 years of life, Cecilia served as the cornerstone in an ever-growing family. Her strong faith had a profound impact on her family and friends and carried her through good times and bad.
